My next interior mirror to replace my original one too

Do you confirm this part number for this passat mirror ? 3B0 857 511 J Y20

And do you finish your installation for you chinese BT roof console ?

Yes, this is autodimming 3B0 857 511 J Y20 with on/off switch AND ambient lights.

Be aware that this mirror DOES NOT have the two extra wires inside for the autodimming exterior mirrors connection.

It only has 4 wires in the stalk (#4 and #5 are missing for the exterior dimming function)

To retain exterior mirrors you need to buy a Touareg mirror and swap over the priinted circuit inside. (I have a spare one here )

By the way....

6Q0 857 511 B Y20 autodimming mirror has on/off switch BUT NO ambient lights. Also only 4 wires in stalk, so no exterior dimming connection.

3B0 857 511 H Y20 autodimming mirror has NO switch and NO ambient lights but does have 6 wires in stalk to allow the exterior dimming mirrors connection.

BT console will be in when headliner is back in next week...had to remove again to add some wires and new aerial wire.

Now painted Pearl Gray :-)

Still needs rest of dash wiring to module to work.

More wiring in dash yet.

Price is about $300 from China for everything.

I install Canadian BMW DRL relay, so high beam works with reduced output as DRL (~30%)

Just have to re-arrange some of the wiring under the dash to run high beams through the new relay.

do you have a link to buy this relay, and please can you explain us how to do this mod if you can ?

i like this mod and i want to do the same on my mk4....

This is the schematic I made up:

The "79" relay is to allow the high beam to flash with the ignition off. The BMW relay is not powered up unless the ignition is on. I kept this feature to keep the high beam behaviour as per standard.

If you don't require this, then you can delete the "79" relay from the wiring.

If you have fog lights that switch off when high beam selected, then you also need to make this small modification to the fog light relay:

I also added this Skoda Fabia II/Roomster DRL swiitch to turn off the entire system. Switch is optional as well, but handy to switch off DRL's when doing VAGCOM scans etc with ignition on.



Normally the DRL system works automatically when you switch on ignition and goes off when you switch on light switch - set and forget. If you flash the high beams when driving they still work exactly like now.

I bought relay from on-line BMW dealer in USA, but they are not allowed to sell overseas anymore.

You can buy them in Europe from BMW dealer. BMW part # 61 35 8 368 039
